When you are performing the exercises, focus on keeping your core tight and lengthening from head to tailbone. You want there to be a straight line from the bottom of your neck, through the center of the chest, down through the lower back and legs. Here are some exercises that you can perform each day when you feel yourself slouching:
- Back Extension — Do this exercise against a wall by placing both palms against it with elbows bent at 90 degrees and arms extended out at shoulder height. Keep hips facing forward as press into wall with hands while extending torso over head until fully extended (but not hyperextending), return slowly by bending at waist until fully relaxed again (you should be able to feel stretch in hamstrings). Perform three sets with 15 repetitions per set every other day (15 on one day off two days).
- Back Bow — Start seated on mat or bench with knees bent 90 degrees; place hands behind head, interlacing fingers together so elbows touch ears; lift chest upwards by arching lower back upwards till mid-back touches floor; hold for 10 seconds before returning slowly down until original position; repeat 10 times twice daily for two weeks total time spent doing this exercise.
